The article discusses his accomplishments on and off the court. He had a very successful career and had the respect of his teammates as well as the players on other teams. Moses was chosen as one of the leagues 50 greatest players. His cause of death is still undetermined. Moses was found unresponsive in his hotel room and was pronounced dead at the scene. He died at the age of 60.

            In writing this article, the author wants to inform the reader about the accomplishments of a former NBA star. The author wants people to honor and respect what Moses Malone was able to achieve on and off the court. After reading the article, people that are genuinely interested or who may have been fans of Moses should write articles of their own, discussing more of the outstanding qualities in Moses that made him such an excellent person and player. The author wants us to understand the impact Moses was able to make on so many people.

            Aside from being an informative article, the author also wanted to explain that because of Moses’s stellar career and well being, his death is going to have an affect on many people. Moses wasn't one of those thug athletes that people cheer for in the game, but have no respect for out of it. He was a respectful person, and therefore people wanted to see him succeed. Athletes with such tremendous ability as well as character deserve to be honored in some way.

            The intended audience for this article is most likely males over the age of 16, who have an interest in professional basketball and its historical players. More specifically, sports commentators, current and ex-professional basketball players, as well as old fans that may have watched Moses play would be most affected by this article. The main audience would probably already know about Moses’s death and his accomplishments on the court, but they probably don't know the things he was able to do off the court. Most people just saw him as a basketball star, but the article points out that he was much more than that. He was a kind and respecting person. The audience doesn't need much of a background on the matter to understand the article. Basically anybody could read this article and have an understanding on who Moses Malone was. The audience will most likely want to know what the cause of death was because the article stated that it was still undetermined, so that may lead to another article on the subject, further explaining what happened. 

            As I previously said, the main purpose for writing this article is to inform people of the death of Moses Malone, and explain all that he was able to achieve. Anybody could read this article, but the main audience is people that had already known who Moses Malone was, and wanted to learn more about his life and career. Some people were probably more affected by this article than others, but everyone that read it should at least have a certain amount of respect for Moses Malone as a player, but more importantly as a person.
