Two careers that I think about going into when I graduate college are playing professional football and real estate. Obviously, playing in the NFL is more of a dream career. Playing in the pro’s is just about every athlete’s dream, but very few are capable of making it their reality. Real estate is a career that many people go into. More specifically, I would like to make a career out of building and selling real estate.

Playing professional football requires athletes to be committed to the team, show up to every practice and workout, and work harder every day. Every professional athlete has their responsibilities on the field as well as off the field. Players must attend every meeting, go to physical therapy, work individually with their position coaches, and study plays when they aren't practicing. On the off season they have to stay in shape and continue to develop their skills even if they have a couple weeks off. The National Football League also expects every team and its players to behave off the field and not negatively affect the reputation of the league. Players can be fined, and even suspended, for actions that occur off the field. Assuming the player has a family, he must also maintain his responsibilities within his family. With the amount players travel, it can feel like they aren't spending enough time with their family. My dad played in the NFL for 13 years, and he retired after my sister was born because he wanted to be home, so he could help my mom. Being a professional athlete in any sport doesn't require a whole lot a writing skills. I supposed professional football players may need to be able to write personal letters in response to fan mail. The majority of what they do is over the phone or in person, so they need to develop more speaking skills than writing skills.

•     No specific writing skill is needed to excel in playing professional football. Building and selling real estate is actually what my dad currently does. He owns builds apartment complexes. The biggest responsibility he has is making sure the bank, or whoever gives him a loan, gets paid back. Other than that, he makes sure construction runs smoothly, pays his manager, and for the most part just keeps things in line. His manager handles the majority of the minor responsibilities. People in real estate need to be able to write business proposals and construct formal emails to business partners, investors, etc.

•     The ability to write business plans is crucial to success in a real estate owner’s career. Most people starting off don’t have the initial capital to start building without a loan from the bank. The business plan is what needs to be as strong as possible to show the bank that you're worth their investment, and that they will be paid back.
